WELCOME TO THE LEATHER PORTRAIT PROJECT

The Leather Portrait Project is a photographic documentary celebrating the people, stories, and identities that make up today’s leather community. Each participant is photographed in two distinct looks—first as they present themselves in everyday life, and then in the leather, gear, or attire that represents their place within the community.More than a collection of portraits, the project is being created as a visual archive: a record of who we are, how we express ourselves, and the people shaping leather culture right now.

Participation is completely free. There is no session fee or purchase required to take part in the project. After publication of the book, each participant will also receive two complimentary photographs from their session as a thank-you for helping bring the project to life.

The project is currently photographing participants in Palm Springs with plans to expand to Mid-Atlantic Leather (MAL) in Washington, DC, Chicago, Austin, and Denver in early 2027. To make that expansion possible, we need your support.

Travel, production, equipment, printing, and publication costs all add up, and our upcoming Kickstarter campaign will help bring the Leather Portrait Project to more communities and ultimately turn this growing archive into a published photography book.Sign up for our email list to follow the project, receive behind-the-scenes updates, and be among the first to know when the Kickstarter goes live.
